The difference between good and poor quality double glazing

October 11, 2013

When choosing your double glazing, it can be tempting to base your decision purely on price. However, there are plenty of other factors that you need to consider for your windows and choosing a lower quality product can have serious long term consequences. At Bebington Glazing, not only do we provide fantastic value for money, but we use only top quality glass for your double glazing. This means that the life-span of your glass will be much longer and that the short term benefits are much greater.

Factors that you need to consider when choosing your double glazing include:

Installation

It is important that you get a trained professional to install your double glazing. One of the most common complaints with window installations is to get window frames that do not fit properly. This is covered up by using extra plastic trims around the edges. Another issue is that the window frame is not sealed properly. The long term result of which is that your window will leak and also create damp problems.

This problem is usually greater when your double glazing company use sub-contractors to fit their windows for them. They are often poorly paid and care little for the reputation of the company that is paying them. At Bebington Glazing, all of our fitters are employed directly by us.

Lifespan

When you spend money on double glazing, you want it to last as long as possible. However, it is likely that your windows will not last forever and some replacement windows and doors can start presenting major problems after just 5 years. This is an expense that you do not want to be paying for on a regular basis.

Weather conditions and ultraviolet radiation both play a factor in the lifespan of your windows. Signs of window degradation include discolouring, brittle frame seals, corroded metal components and gaps in the seals. If the internal reinforcement is inadequate, the result could be sagging over time which will result in leaks draughts.

All of our windows have a 10 year insurance-backed guarantee, but most are expected to last much longer.

Insulation

On average, 20% of the heat lost in the house is through the windows. Many glazing providers will use cheaper glass that is not energy efficient. This could end up costing you a lot of money in heating bills.

All of our uPVC windows at Bebington Glazing are energy efficiency A rated to ensure that your bills are as cheap as possible.

Security

When considering the security of your windows, it is important to consider whether the glass can be broken and if it can be removed altogether. Some replacement windows can be removed from the outside with little or no difficulty. All of our windows have been subjected to rigorous testing to assess how resistant they are to potential intruders. They also have extra security features such as key-operated locking handles.
Weather Resistance

If your replacement window provider uses poor quality glass, they may become vulnerable to severe weather conditions. In worst cases, some windows may begin to leak after low levels of wind pressure. The weather resistance of glass has a large influence of the lifespan of your double glazing as well.

Stay Protected

Make sure you use a reputable provider for your double glazing. Do not be afraid of bringing up any of the issues mentioned here prior to your installation.
